3-member committee to oversee political appointments

Modi placates RSS
Bhagwat to review Govt.’s  performance

In a significant development, the RSS and ruling BJP have evolved a new mechanism to meet the growing aspirations of thousands of party workers who loop up to the Modi government for suitable rewards.

Highly placed sources say that an all powerful committee has been set up in the run up to the 3-day conclave of  top RSS leaders with all its 36 frontal organizations including the BJP beginning September 2 in Delhi.

It is said that a 3- member committee has been formed to over see all political appointments in banks as directors, members in various commissions and bodies, consultants and other key positions at various levels in the government. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval who had been closely associated with the Vivekanand International Foundation and P K Mishra, Additional principal Secretary to PM and Krishan Gopal, joint general secretary of the RSS are members of this committee. Ram Lal, a RSS nominee to the BJP who is general secretary will coordinate with this committee. All those party workers, leaders and associates aspiring to join the government in key positions will have to first go to Ram Lal who will process and discuss the matter with Krishan Gopal. It will be Krishan Gopal who in turn will discuss with other frontal organizations and top RSS leaders before forwarding the names to Doval. It is the duty of Doval who will then discuss the matter with P K Mishra.

This new mechanism is first of its kind evolved by the Modi government to keep political favour seekers at bay. For example, this is first time that all governors appointed in key positions are related to the RSS in one way or the other and have long history of association with the BJP, RSS or frontal organizations.
This principle was never followed during the period of Atal Behari Vajpayee during 1998-2004 who  never allowed RSS to dictate terms to him. But Modi has decided to keep the RSS in a comfort zone and said wherever the party has competent persons to be accommodated, the same may be absorbed. Modi has even directed most of his ministers to visit the RSS headquarters at Jhandewalan to take the input before formulating policies and crucial decisions. In fact, one RSS associate has been deputed in the team of every Union Minister unless they belong to the allies’ parties.

The committee arrangement comes into being as RSS begins its 3-day conclave to take stock of the performance of its three dozen frontal organizations and their relationship with the Modi government. Though the RSS leadership had always held every year such a review, its significant this time as it is first time a BJP majority government is at the helms.
